Sick Day

Sick Day

I had something much more elaborate planned for Leap Day, but I got really sick. Flu like symptoms, I haven't been able to leave my bed today, and this pretty much represents my day. Crappy, not able to stomach any food, and texting. When I feel better, so will these photos.

Happy Leap Day! :D

This couldn't have come at a better time; I just broke my running PR minutes before I took this pic. A little back story: I started jogging about a year and half ago -- nothing serious, I'm a slowpoke, but I can go for awhile. To date, I'm not sure there's anything else that makes me as happy as skiing. This is it. The second I start running, I've got a big goofy grin on my face which elicits strange looks from other runners (along with my shoes.. see comments ;)). Bizarrely enough, I run faster at high altitude than at sea level, but I enjoy it just as much. This made my day. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

Oh, and it's 16C today (~61F). Hello, Global Warming. You made it a perfect day to run. 8-)

Continuing my new series Inspiring Asanas...

Yoga is an essential part of life for my husband and me... and so is the creative vision :-)
So here is the second artwork for the series with some astro-projected impressions of one of the asanas we are usually doing at the beginning of each session.

Used long exposure to record our body folding :-) and enhanced the image by layers of textures with our origami papers.

Farewell Daydream Believer

Jings! I just heard about half an hour ago that Davy Jones of The Monkees died earlier today, aged 66.

I saw him on stage three times. The first was at Edinburgh Playhouse in the late 80s where it was just him, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork as The Monkees. A few years later (30th anniversay tour?) I saw all four perform at the SECC. This was taken last year at The Armadillo in Glasgow, where it was just him, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork again. It was the first time I had ever photographed the band.

The Monkees were a "pretend" TV band who became real given their popularity. I think Mike Nesmith said they were like Pinnochio becoming a real boy.

For those of us of "a certain age", there are fond memories of the TV show...and the music.

I've only worked on this picture since I heard the news of Davy's death.

You can see a shot I took of Davy with the band, here: Monkee Business

My thanks are due to Alex Hewitt from The Scotsman for arranging my photo pass.

Villefrance-sur-Mer, France

Villefranche-sur-Mer (Niçard: Vilafranca de Mar, Italian: Villafranca Marittima) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region on the French Riviera. Villefranche-sur-Mer adjoins the city of Nice to the east along Mont Boron, Mont Alban and Mont Vinaigrier, and 10 km (6.2 mi) south west of Monaco. The bay (rade) of Villefranche is one of the deepest natural harbours of any port in the Mediterranean Sea and provides safe anchorage for large ships, reaching depths of 95 m (320 ft) between the Cape of Nice and Cap Ferrat; it extends to the south to form a 500 m (1700 ft) abyss known as the undersea Canyon of Villefranche at about one nautical mile off the coastline.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villefranche-sur-Mer

This coastline was one of the first modern resort areas. It began as a winter health resort for the British upper class at the end of the 18th century. With the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century, it became the playground and vacation spot of British, Russian, and other aristocrats, such as Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, when he was Prince of Wales. In the summer, it also played home to many members of the Rothschild family. In the first half of the 20th century it was frequented by artists and writers, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Edith Wharton, Somerset Maugham and Aldous Huxley, as well as wealthy Americans and Europeans. After World War II it became a popular tourist destination and convention site. Many celebrities, such as Elton John and Brigitte Bardot, have homes in the region. Officially, the Côte d'Azur is home to 163 nationalities with 83,962 foreign residents, although estimates of the number of non-French nationals living in the area are often much higher. The French Riviera is a major yachting and cruising area with several marinas along its coast. According to the Côte d'Azur Economic Development Agency, each year the Riviera hosts 50% of the world's superyacht fleet, with 90% of all superyachts visiting the region's coast at least once in their lifetime. As a tourist centre it benefits from 300 days of sunshine per year, 115 kilometres (71 mi) of coastline and beaches, 18 golf courses, 14 ski resorts and 3,000 restaurants.

Crazy day today taking pics of Chonchon. We found ourselves in a cool burnt down paint and body shop where we almost caught a trespassing charge. It wasn't over after we left either because on the way to drop Chonchon off at her car a patrol cop realized that my window tint is a lil bit dark and wanted to tell me about it. He wrote no ticket though, so two close ones today.

In Jaffa, Israel, 2012

The municipality of Tel-Aviv-Jaffa took the exceptional step of naming a square in memory of Dr. Fouad Ismail Dajani, a Palestinian physician who founded the first private hospital in Jaffa in 1933. Serving both Arabs and Jews, the hospital was familiar to many Israelis who were born there over the years, and although its formal name has since changed, it is still widely called the Dajani Hospital.

Saying Goodbye to February

Eddie C3 has added a photo to the pool:

Saying Goodbye to February

Here in New York City, with the newspapers reported an especially harsh winter across Europe it felt like the home town had skipped winter this year. Since this seemed like the February that never was, this Van Cortlandt lake scene is not from 2012. This photo was taken on February 11, 2010.

I had so many photographic experiences this February that just didn’t seem to fit in with that month. Besides eating a few lunches on Central park benches I actually walked across the Manhattan Bridge. I walked all the way out on the Christopher Street Pier to take pictures of Freedom Tower. I went to a place even more infamous for biting wind, out to take cityscapes from the Hoboken Riverwalk.

Such an odd winter this was in New York City. March is yet to be seen and there have been a few in my life that came with much cold and snow. I even remember a few White Easters but it seems that the Halloween blizzard, almost a month prior to the official beginning of winter, marked the end of this New York winter season.
