Paris Ratha Yatra, July 1st 2012.
The Ratha Yatra is a Hindu festival that celebrates Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of preserver god Vishnu, in Hindu mythology. The Ratha Yatra is especially popular in Jaganath Puri, in the Eastern State of Orissa, India, where a huge temple is dedicated to Jaganath, one of the names of Kishna. The festival commemorates Krishna's return to Vrindavan, a small town in North India, where it is said that he grew up.
Every year, a procession is held in the streets of Paris by the local Hindu community and the members of the Hare Krishna movement in France. For the occasion, all devotees join together in an incredibly joyful atmosphere, pulling a huge chariot carrying the idol, chanting, playing drums and dancing, while free food and drinks are distributed to all.
