Classical

Classical

Low Service Pumping Station
Metropolitan Water Works
Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts
Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge Architects

This is one of Boston's few public buildings designed in the Beaux Arts Classical Style, this was built in 1898-1901. This building housed massive pumps which helped supply the city with water. The building was built by Norcross Brothers contractors for $182,660.

If engineering is your thing you might enjoy this report I found on the value of the Chestnut Hill Reservoir which included this pump house ... www.cityofboston.gov/Images_Documents/Chestnut%20Hill%20R...
