St Mary, Dallinghoo, Suffolk
Late 17th Century headstone depicting a shovel, hour glass and pick.
It isn't impossible that they show the trade tools of a sexton, although all three are found as symbols of mortality on gravestones of the time. There is a rather more elaborate headstone a few miles off at Burgh.
An intriguing church in the rolling landscape betwen Woodbridge and Debenham. Originally cruciform, it has lost its chancel and transepts, and so now has a tower at its east end rather than west. This makes it seem to be back to front. The interior has a delicious collection of 17th century features.
