A Thalassey fisherman wearing an Ola Kuda

Local Thalassery and Mahe fishermen were these umbrella kind of hats to save themselves from daily tan.
These hats are called Ola Kuda or palm leaf umbrella hat. They were originally much larger, around four feet in diameter and can be attached with a handle to turn them into umbrellas.
in 16th century these were used as shades by kings and their wives.
